When paddle boarding there are several different body positions you may want to use depending on conditions and what you are trying to accomplish. Prone, kneeling, standing and surf stance all offer specific benefits. Lets take a look at when and why you may want to switch to another position. Prone paddling is when we lay down on our paddle board and "swim" the board. This is your most stable position on your board and where you have the least resistance to the wind. A great time to use this position is if you get unexpected winds and chop. This stable low position will allow you to maintain stability and make progress against the wind. Kneeling is your next most stable position, it offers less wind resistance than standing and is a little drier than prone paddling. Paddling in this position however is generally more awkward and less efficient. This typically is the position most people use when they first get on the board before standing. It is also great if you suddenly feel less stable or want to take a break from standing Standing is where we ultimately want to be for most comfort and efficiency paddling, and the reason we call it "Stand Up Paddling". From this position we utilize the full length of the paddle and are able to engage all of our body to power our stroke. The Surf Stance or Pivot Turn Stance is useful to change our balance forwards and backwards as opposed to side to side. When heading into waves it can offer better balance and will lift the nose of the board up over the waves. While paddling in front of a wave it prevents the nose from diving under water and gives better balance forward to backward. Another use for this stance is to weight the back of the board to allow for faster turning "The Pivot Turn" So different positions offer varying benefits to stability and efficiency. Choosing the best body position for the circumstances can help manage changing conditions.

Have you been making the most of your inflatable stand up paddleboard (iSUP) and are unsure about how to maintain it properly? If so, this is the place to be! You have made a great investment in a premium high end paddle board and you know that maintaining it regularly is important to take care of your SUP and to make the most of the lifetime warranty. In this blog, we’ll discuss the most important things you need to do to keep your SUP board in top condition.      Clean and fresh:  To avoid any damage to your iSUP, it’s critical to keep it clean. This involves using cleaning products specifically designed for inflatable paddle boards. Sea Gods offers Made in Canada, environmentally friendly, non toxic, cleaning products from Onit Pro- they work amazing and smell great!  Our recommendation is using blue goo to remove any tough grime, deck pad cleaner to clean the EVA foam deck pad and neoprene handles, and applying extreme cream UV protectant to keep the PVC soft and strong. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and if you want your board to last, this step should be your priority. If nothing else, at least rinse your board off with fresh water before storing and let it dry fully. If you head home with a board that's still wet, no problem. When you get home, open your board and set it up on it's side in a loose roll with a fan nearby to get it dried off and avoid getting that mildew stank. If you forget, you can pick up another bottle of DPC- also great for getting wet dog stank off your deck pad.    Leash UP! :  To prevent damage by dragging, always secure your leash when moving or carrying it. Not only does this keep you from looking like a dweeb, this will keep it from getting knotted or caught on any objects. We recommend always securing it to the D ring near the valve at the back of your board, and putting the ankle end around the board handle or your wrist when walking out to the water, or back to shore.     Tighten the Valve:  The valve is a massively important component of your iSUP. We suggest tightening it 2 a year with the funky looking Halkey Roberts wrench to make sure that there are no leaks. If you ever feel like your board is not holding air, 99.8% of the time, you'll just need to give the valve a quick tighten. The funky wrench is in the orange cylinder that should live in the bottom of your bag. ¼-½ a turn until its hand tight is all you'll need. The frequency of needing to do this really depends on how much your valve vibrates- if you always use the electric battery pump to inflate, you might need to do this more frequently than if you leave your board inflated while storing.  Lubricate Your Pump:  Your pump needs to be lubricated with silicone grease to keep the rubber O-ring inside soft and not dry out and crack. This will keep your pump running smoothly and ensure it lasts for years to come. You just unscrew the top and you will see that black rubber ring that seals to the inside cylinder of your pump. Smear a small amount of silicone grease on there and it will make its way around inside to where it needs to be. You will know this needs to be done if your pump is getting hot after using it or if you hear a squeak noise or if it just doesn’t seem to be working smoothly.     Clean Your Bag:  Your bag should be cleaned out regularly to prevent sand and mud buildup. This will keep your bag in top condition and ensure it continues to protect your iSUP during transportation. If its full of sand, then your board and all the accessories will be getting rubbed in all the wrong ways when you are transporting it- literally getting sanded down. Take your bag outside and give it a good dump upside down and see all the treasures you’ve collected from you last journey, you might be surprised!  Rinse Your Paddle:   Saltwater can be harmful to the metal components of your paddle. Rinse and dry your paddle regularly to prevent saltwater from seizing it up. Even if you are paddling in fresh water, there are tons of little micro-organisms etc that you don’t want living inside your paddle reproducing until you carry them back to your next paddle location. Dismantle your 3 piece paddle and give it a good rinse to show it some love.    Tighten the Screws:  The screws in your paddle should be tightened from time to time if they are loose. When they are loose they don’t hold your clamp with the proper pressure to keep your handle from sliding down and losing it’s length when you are paddling. You want them tight enough to give a cosy fit upon closing your clamp. There is lock tight put on the screws when your paddle is built, but they will get loose over time so check them regularly, so you don’t lose them!     Use Your Lithium Ion Battery Pump:   The unavoidable thing about the amazing Battery Powered lithium-ion battery electric pump is that batteries do lose life over time and that is just the limits of this sweet technology. Just like the one in your cell phone, over time they lose the ability to hold a full charge, so it’s important to use and drain it regularly to prolong its life.  Unlike the G1 Optimus Prime Transformer action figure that you left in the package up on the top shelf- sitting on the shelf is not great for the longevity- and also remember to clean out the intake port incase any leaves or sand are stuck to the sponge filter in that intake hole. Click here to see how to use your pump correctly if you're not sure.    Regularly Ride Your iSUP:   Lastly, the best way to keep you in top condition is to regularly ride your iSUP! Not only will it keep you happy and healthy, but it will also keep your iSUP in top condition because you will have it out to do your regular maintenance.    In conclusion, proper maintenance is crucial to the longevity of your inflatable stand up paddleboard. By following these tips and taking good care of your SUP, you’ll be able to enjoy it for years to come. Remember to keep it clean and store it dry, secure your leash, tighten the valve, lubricate your pump, clean your bag, rinse your paddle, tighten the screws, use your lithium-ion battery, and regularly ride your SUP.  The Sol Flyer hybrid all around longboard is a new board style by Sea Gods for 2024.  The Sol Flyer is for a different riding style than most other boards.  It is for the folks who like to stand up tall and take really long strokes with a long paddle.  I see them out there, and whenever I try to teach lessons there are always folks who don’t want to bend at their hips and stack their hands-  they want to feel tall and long, hold their face up to the sun and just feel like they are walking on water.  These folks want to just take it easy, cruise along, stand up tall and look good.  They don’t stop the paddle at their feet.  They don’t bend at their hips. They just want to cruise around with a peaceful easy feeling.  This type of riders wants a stable board that will span the chop, give great tracking and stability while they just cruise along from one friend’s dock to another.  We call it an “All-Around Longboard Hybrid”   The ride is like the style-  Smooth and good looking.  It’s not built for speed.  Its stable because of the width up front.  It tracks great because of the extra length.  It is smooth and easy because the tail tapers out to keep that glide.  If you want to stand tall with a long paddle and put your face up to the sun and hum banana pancakes by Jack Johnson as you cruise around for an easy ride, this board is for you. I was super impressed with the way it performed exactly the way we designed it to- it had excellent tracking, easy maneuverability and the placement of the widest portion in front of the feet made for incredible stability well not sacrificing the efficiency.  The board tapers from where you naturally start your paddle stroke and allows for a long smooth, uninterrupted stroke for continuous power.  It was a windy 10 knot day my first ride out, and so with the speed and the waves, it really does feel like you are flying. Performance in the wind and waves: The colours are incredible and put a huge grin on my face that I just could not shake although there was a strong wind an modern amount of chop the board performed incredibly well in each direction - head on into the waves creating a splash out to the sides when they break on the widest part.  Taking the waves cross side it was easy to lean on a rail and keep the board moving straight, but best of all cruising along downwind with the chop was that effortless, calm glide to melt all of life's problems away. Hybrid Longboard Shape: The way that the Sol Flyer tapers back makes it incredibly easy to have long smooth paddle strokes while keeping great tracking so you can switch sides less an enjoy a smoother flow. The tapering in the nose tracked very, very well - cutting through the waves instead of letting them turn the board. Artwork: The Sol Flyer features art painted by Eduardo Bolioli, the original user of the  Posca Pen for surf boards, his use of dayglo paints and hand drawn Mololo's (flying fish) make this board stand out in even the darkest of waters. EVA Pad: EVA is the soft, water tight foam that the top deck is covered with for grip and comfort under your feet.  The new Eva pad was very comfortably grippy under my bare feet- like the way a siped tire sticks to a wet road. The banana leaf cutouts did a great job of keeping traction well the top layer was very smooth on the bottom of my bare feet and overall was very effective and super comfortable.  But we must talk about the looks of this innovative new pad technology!  With splice bonded colours of the tequila sunrise beneath a solid top of smooth black, with the banana leaf carved out, the design is incredibly attractive and the bonding of the EVA is permanent and will definitely hold up to the Lifetime Warranty.  Fin Box and Accessories: The fin box is split into two pieces so the board takes less effort to fold because you don't need to be so mindful of where you place your folds when putting it back into the included wheelie backpack carry bag.  It is a beautiful, sturdy back with a handle or two on each side, signature green wheels that feel with a strong and soft like grippy rollerblade wheels.  The new fin box holds the included flex touring fin very securely-  it takes some pressure to lean on it to pop the fin into the box (no tools needed) and there it stays until you are ready to grab the tip of the fin and yank it out.  The included carbon fiber paddle is well crafted, lightweight and has a great catch and stroke.  The dual action, two chamber pump has different sized chambers to make inflating at the top pressure easier than ever.  The total accessory kit is high quality and includes everything you need to get going. So what is a hybrid longboard? This board is a hybrid between an all around with great maneuverability well giving the tracking of a touring board and also the stability by giving the added width where it will make the most affect right in front of the standing area.  This is for riders who want a smooth ride and love standing tall and taking long strokes. I am over the moon in love with not only the colours and the visual appeal of the shape but the performance exceeds my expectations and the Sol Flyer is a very enjoyable board for long cruises.  It is sure to be a favorite with the reviewers and our Sea Gods Family alike!
